DRAIN IV Installation Overview for Contractors
Proper installation of your DRAIN IV system is crucial for maintaining the efficiency and longevity of your client’s HVAC systems. DRAIN IV is designed to prevent clogs and buildup in condensate drip trays and drain lines, ensuring optimal performance. This guide provides a comprehensive overview of the installation process and additional resources to assist HVAC contractors and technicians.
Understanding DRAIN IV
DRAIN IV is an Automatic HVAC Condensate Drain Line Conditioning System that dispenses a proprietary cleaning solution into your air conditioning condensate drip tray and drain lines. This system helps prevent clogs that lead to AC shutdowns, overflowing condensate discharge lines, and pans that can leak into floors and walls, causing mold, mildew, and expensive damage.
Installation Instructions
To ensure a seamless installation, follow these steps:
- Preparation: Before beginning the installation, thoroughly clean the drip tray and drain line to remove any existing debris or buildup. Remember, START CLEAN! STAY CLEAN!
- Mounting the Programmable Pump: The most popular mounting option is our Magnet Mount. Secure the programmable pump onto the mount using the provided screws. Ensure the mount is placed on a metal surface with sufficient iron content to hold the magnet securely. If the surface is inadequate, consider one of the included alternative mounting options.
- Connecting the Tubing. Select one of the following options:
-
- Injection Port Option: Insert the injection port into the ¾” PVC access tee located just outside the air handler. Connect one end of the ¼” tubing into the top of the injection port until it stops. Cut the tubing to the appropriate length to reach the programmable pump, allowing for some slack. Connect the tubing to the pump’s OUT Port using the included spring clamp.
- Drip Tray Installation Kit Option: Use the provided clips and tee to position the tubing within the drip tray. Attach the clip(s) to the highest part of the drip tray slope, ensuring the open end of the tubing is lower than the tray’s edge. Cut the tubing to the necessary length to reach to the programmable pump, allowing for some slack. Connect the tubing to the pump’s OUT Port using the included spring clamp. If using a tee, use the included spring clamps to secure the connection. Note the connection orientation of the tee: Arms are OUT and Leg is IN. NOTE: If using more than 1 drip tray clip, reprogram the pump to 60ml every 4 days.
- Connecting the IV Bag: Follow the instructions on the IV Bag Concentrate and fill the IV Bag. Insert one end of the ¼” tubing into the top of the IV Bag cap, pulling approximately 10 inches through. Attach the weighted filter to the tubing below the cap, ensuring a secure connection. Hang the IV bag on the lower arms of the magnet mount using the bag’s metal grommets. Cut the tubing to the appropriate length to reach the programmable pump, providing some slack. Connect the tubing to the pump’s IN Port using the included spring clamp.
- Powering the System: Connect the 24VAC to 5VDC Converter with a 10-foot Type C USB cable to the HVAC system’s 24VAC supply programmable pump’s DC-5V port. Ensure the converter is properly wired to the air handler’s control box.
Turn on the Pump and Prime the System
- Power On: Press and hold the center POWER button for three seconds to power the pump on. NOTE: to power Off, repeat this step.
- Testing/Priming the Pump: To test or prime the system, double-press the “-/TEST” button. The pump will run for the programmed DOSE volume. To stop the pump before the end of the DOSE cycle, press the POWER button. Repeat this process as necessary to prime the system and remove all air from the ¼” tubing.
NOTE: The pump’s default programmed values will work on most of your residential installations. If a program change is required, please watch the Programming, Battery Level and IV Bag Refill video to change the settings.
